iMovie v10 doesn't play nice with Analog to Digital (FireWire) converter

hello everyone,

upgraded imac 10.9 , updated imovie v10 (from v9.0.9). use sony dvmc-da2 import analog video signals via firewire, , import them imovie v9. had no issue doing in os x 10.8 imovie v9.

however, along 10.9 upgrade updated imovie v10, import feature not seem firewire sony analog digital converter. video signal cuts in , out, , if stabilizes, audio lags on recorded content. not happen in imovie v9. happen in quicktime player x (but not quicktime 7 pro).

assuming core functionality in 10.9 (that maybe both imovie v10 , qt x) rely on, culprit here? it's quite frustrating! has had experience or found solution?

i've tried different cables , analog multimedia, have same effect. i'm hesitant try 10.10 @ point, assume may make things worse.

mac specs:
imac 2011 27" - os x 10.9.5
3.4ghz i7 / 32gb ram
plenty of internal , external disk space

unless you've deleted it, should still have old version of imovie.
