iPad Air 2 Notes side column?

hi all, have simple question side column in notes application. holding ipad on side horizontally, left side of column taking @ least 2 inches of space. there way minimize side column? pushes keyboard , writing space right side.

don't have issue when holding ipad vertically. side column minimizable. please help. thank you.
 

i tried resize in landscape mode , there doesn't seem way it. keyboard lays on column though , doesn't pushed right. yours does?
