Microphone not working since last update

the microphone in both iphones acting when doing voice dictation in text messaging, email, , what'sapp. cuts off after few seconds of dictation , on 1 phone no longer functions @ all. sound wave indicator not show activity.

microphones function correctly voice memos though. problem occurred right after recent update on 5 , 5s. solutions?
