Keep External Hard drive Icons on Desktop

i want have g-drive external hard drive icon stay on desktop them time. possible icon stay there when hard drive removed.
 

right click on drive icon , select make alias. can drag drive icon onto right side of dock, right click on in dock , select folder , list. not sure why want icon left around after eject hard drive clicking on serve no purpose other open finder to boot hard drive.
