Files Missing, No Errors in Disk Utility

i had odd thing happen today, logged mac , handbrake missing applications folder leaving "?" on dock. half of video files had ripped personal dvd collection gone well.

did verify , repair disk in disk utility , found no errors. 2013 macbook air 256gb ssd.

i'm not sure think of really, maybe ssd nearing end of it's life? doubt it, maybe. or perhaps have filevault not being finished encrypting video files , computer hard rebooted?

honestly, don't know happened , doubt theres easy way figure out. wondering if has had similar happen?
