Working from an external USB3 drive...

hello ! i'm new here , new apple ! pulled trigger in rimac (not here yet) enhance photo editing experience.

in current windows setup, have main 256gb ssd , 2nd internal 500gb mechanical drive. photo imports/editing , exporting jpeg happen on 500gb drive.

on mac, have on external drive, opted 500gb ssd internal drive. i'm looking @ western digital "my book" 2tb drive, usb3" setup work well, or in nasty surprise ? suggestions appreciated. thanks

what use edit pictures? if use lr5, can keep smart preview on laptop , leave raw in external hd when import.
